We are the Samford University club ultimate team Dogma, formerly known as Ferrousity, formerly known as Sudogs. Samford University is a private, liberal arts university of about 5,000 total students in Birmingham, Alabama. We have been around since August 2007, and have established our college team as the best in the Birmingham area. We have both a men's and women's team. We are a part of the Gulf Coast Conference of the Southeast Region in Division III. The main teams we play against are Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU, Tulane, and Vanderbilt. We have competed in Sectionals since 2008, and are making a steady climb to playing more tournaments with more people. The team moved to Division III, with its inception in 2011 by USA Ultimate, for universities of fewer than 7,500 students. The men compete in one or two tournaments in the fall and three or four tournaments in the spring. The team continues to rise while earning more respect and prowess each season.
If you're interested in playing or just want someone to talk to, feel free to contact our Co-Captains Alex Lowry (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Garrett Boucher (email@example.com). They're kinda friendly.
We host an open play on the Intramural Fields, while Samford is in session, every Friday from about 3:30-5:30 depending on daylight. The fields are across Lakeshore Drive next to Homewood High School. Come out with some cleats and water!
"DOGMA" 2013-Present (1. An official system of principles or tenets concerning faith, morals, behavior, etc., as of a church. Synonyms: doctrine, teachings, set of beliefs, philosophy. 2. A specific tenet or doctrine authoritatively laid down, as by a church: the dogma of the Assumption; the recently defined dogma of papal infallibility. Synonyms: tenet, canon, law. 3. Prescribed doctrine proclaimed as unquestionably true by a particular group: the difficulty of resisting political dogma. 4. A settled or established opinion, belief, or principle: the classic dogma of objectivity in scientific observation. Synonyms: conviction, certainty.)
"FERROUSITY" 2010-2012 (Ferrousity could be a play on words or literal. Being in Birmingham, it is known as the "Iron City". Ferrous means iron. So we combined ferrous along with a good ending "ity" to come up with Ferrousity. Or we could just be "Iron City".)
"SUDOGS" 2007-2009 (Samford University. "SU". Samford Bulldogs. Sudogs.)
